Tim Vasquez of Omaha Public Power District (OPPD) provided a case study on the difficulties OPPD faced with its old remittance processing system, and how an advanced image-based solution that uses Check 21 helped improve its operations efficiency and reduce the utility’s annual operating costs by 83 percent. OPPD is one of the largest publicly owned electric utilities in the United States, serving more than 310,000 customers in southeast Nebraska. Additionally, Mark Brousseau, facilitator of TAWPI’s Payment Capture & Clearing Council shared industry data and anecdotes on the challenges utilities and other remittance processors face, and how they are addressing these issues with new technologies and processes.
